Begin stripping that onion, since we're getting one more layer of the widely adored beast.
Shrek 5 is formally underway, as per a July 9 public statement from Dreamworks Movement and Widespread Pictures, and is set to hit venues on July 1, 2026, with perfect timing for the 25th commemoration of the main Shrek film.
While plot subtleties are still hush, the first threesome will return, with Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy and Cameron Diaz repeating their jobs as Shrek, Jackass and Princess Fiona, separately.
The first 2001 film followed Shrek as he set out on a journey with his honorable horse — Jackass — to protect Princess Fiona from a pinnacle watched by a winged serpent. Yet, the fantasy proceeded, when it was uncovered that Fiona herself transformed into a beast into the evening, an appearance she kept after she and Shrek fell head over heels.
Throughout the long term, the story was extended in followup films: 2004's Shrek 2, 2004 Shrek the Third and the last section in the establishment, 2010's Shrek Everlastingly Later.
